Dentist prescribed amoxicillin 500 mg....told to take 4 pills, one hour before dental surgery....but not told what to take after surgery....bottle has twenty pills. I do not have a heart condition thankfully. 4 pills before surgery seems excessive & I am very worried with amount initially prescribed. What is correct dosage ?
Brief Answer:
It is okay as a single prophylactic dose.
Detailed Answer:
This dose of Amoxicillin upto 3 grams ( 6 tablets) is given as a single dose to prevent infection from the bacteria that may enter the blood stream from the dental procedure.
This chemo prophylaxis is mandatory for people with a heart valve lesion or stent.
