What Is The Dosage Of Ivermectin For Scabies?

YYYY@YYYY
Permetherin resistant scabies.
Detailed Answer:
Hi & Welcome.
Thanks for posting your query on Health care magic.
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concern.
1. You seem to be having a Permethrin-resistant scabies.
Usually the most common areas affected by this parasitic infestation include armpits, web spaces between the fingers, wrists, and genitalia. However, it can occur almost every where including the nostrils.
2. Oral Ivermectin is considered to be effective for patients who have failed treatment with Permethrin. It can be taken as a single dose (200µg/kg) with food and the same dose to be repeated after one week.
Generally it is a safe drug, however it may cause fever, headache, chills, or rash in some individuals which are usually mild and can be tolerated.
3. For your scalp you can apply soothing lotion like Calamine lotion which is available without a prescription.
4. To relieve the itching, you can take oral antihistamines like levocetrizine at bed time.
5. Even after taking the medications you may still experience some itching for 2-4 weeks. Retreatment may be necessary if itching continues more than 2-4 weeks after treatment or if new burrows or rash continue to appear.
Hope the suggestions given would be useful in getting the remedy for scabies.
Best wishes.

How long will I be contagious? The mites are definitely more active at night.
Anything I can use on my face and hairline to keep the mites off my face so
I can get some sleep? Can you recommend a good shampoo or ingredient
I should look for & try to kill the ones in my hair?
Thank you,
XXXXXXX
Scabies is contagious until mites & eggs are killed by the treatment
Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma'am, Hi & Welcome back.
Thanks for your reply.
1. Humans are the reservoirs of the parasitic infestation.
It is a highly contagious disease caused by skin infestation by the parasite itch mite or Sarcoptes scabiei. The scabies mite usually is transmitted by direct, prolonged, skin-to-skin contact (including sexual) with a person who has scabies.
Contact with bedding, towels, or clothing (including undergarments) of an infested person can also be responsible for its transmission. The scabies mite burrows into the upper layer of the skin where it lives and lays its eggs. The most common symptoms of scabies are intense itching and a pimple-like skin rash.
The incubation period (the interval between exposure & the onset of itching) is usually 4-6 weeks. However, in a person who has been sensitized to the mite by a previous infestation, re-exposure may produce symptoms in 48 hours or less (owing to prior sensitization to the mite and its saliva and feces).
2. It is a highly contagious disease, the exposed individual is immediately infectious to others even in the absence of itching & until the mites and eggs are destroyed by successful treatment. It usually takes one or two courses of the treatment.
3. After successful treatment, itching may continue for a month. It is
probably resulted from the allergens induced by dying mites & irritation of the eggs on the skin.
4. For your face and the hair line, you can use Crotamiton 10% cream or lotion
Other best alternative is Benzyl benzoate10% lotion if available.
While applying these medications wear gloves & gown and wash your hands after the application. Pay attention to the area behind the ears. Do not get the scabicide near the eyes or mouth.
Fingernails & toenails should be clipped and scabicide applied under nails.
A cleansing bath 8 to 14 hours after application is taken when scabicide is to be removed.
Linens & clothing are changed after treatment. Contaminated clothing &
linens may be dry-cleaned or washed in the hot cycle of the washing
machine & dried in the hot cycle of the dryer for 10-20 minutes.
5. You can take oral antihistamines like Levocetrizine tablet at bed time which not only reduces the itching but also helps in getting sleep.
6. Crotamiton 10% lotion can be used to kill the mites in the hairs.
Hope I could answer your query.
Wishing you best of your health and a speedy recovery.
