Question: I occasionally take 2mg.s of ambien to help with middle of the night wakening(have a very OA bladder) Recently diagnosed with narrow angle, can low dose of ambien adversely affect this condition? Is there something else you would recommend?

Brief Answer:
Ambien is safe to use in narrow angle glaucoma over a short course

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The dose you described for the ambien can be taken safely with narrow angle glaucoma. In short term use ambien is perfectly safe to use in narrow angle glaucoma. Chances of complications in terms of glaucoma are higher only if ambien has been used regularly for more than 5 years in higher dosage e.g 10 mg daily. Monitor Intraocular pressure by visiting and regular follow up with your ophthalmologist. The common causes related to OAB should also be excluded such as UTI, urinary tract calculi/concretions, strictures etc. If none are found cystometric studies can be advised to help confirm the diagnosis.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
