What Is The Highest Dose Of Hydrocodone That Can Be Prescribed For Neuropathic Pain?
I have made over 8 ER visits for pain relief, given morphine and oxycodone and hydrocone/acetaminaphen. Now the hydrocodone is not working. I have also started on neurotic but it has to be titrated up over a month. What is highest dose of hydrocodone that be prescribed or should I ask for oxycodone?
Read below.
Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I am sorry about the symptoms you are experiencing.
I am not sure what drug you mean by "neurotic", can't find any brand with that name, perhaps you meant Neurontin?
I admit I don't have much experience with your diagnosis as it is a rare condition, however I have to say that you should be very cautious about the use of opioids for your diagnosis because while they may alter pain sensitivity on the other hand they are known to reduce gastrointestinal motility and therefore could have a negative effect on the cause of the pain itself. Some opioids with less motility reduction are methadone, fentanyl, buprenorphine or tramadol, so they might be more appropriate for use if an opioid is considered necessary.
That being said, regarding the maximum dose of hydrocodone it shouldn't exceed 60 mg in 24 hours. It is not necessarily weaker than oxycodone though, to make a comparison between the potencies of the drugs 30-45mg of hydroxycodone are equivalent to around 15-20 mg of oxycodone.
I remain at your disposal for further questions.
Neurontin is a good choice.

Thank you for that info, as I supposed it was a misspelling, and it is the case of Neurontin (Gabapentin) which is a commonly used and I believe a good choice medication for this type of pain. Hopefully it will be effective for you as well.
Feel free to ask further questions if you need to.
Thank you
You're welcome
