Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Basically speaking the course of cirrhosis is extremely variable and differs from patient to patient depending upon the stage he is in.
Basically speaking there are two stages of cirrhosis.
Compensated cirrhosis is where body still functions normally despite reduced liver functions and scarring.
Decompensated cirrhosis means body functions are breaking down. There is accumulation of fluid, raised liver enzymes, anaemia in early stage and kidney failure and encephalopathy in later stage.
Since the patient has fluid accumulated, high bilirubin, variceal bleed, anaemia etc,he is in early stage of decompensated cirrhosis.
At this stage the long term prognosis doesn't look very good.
May be few months to couple of years and that too when all precautions are taken properly.
The only treatment at the moment is liver transplant as there is no medicine which can reverse this scarring and cirrhosis process.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
