Case Study XXXXXXX is a 7 month old infant who lives with his parents. XXXXXXX has no sibllings. His cared for by his parents and is not enrolled in dahycare. XXXXXXX was born at full-term via vaginal delivery The Pediatrician reported XXXXXXX was a normal healthy infant. He has been regularly seen by the Pediatrician and has had all vaccinations recommended for his age.
He has been doing well until 10 days ago when his parents noticed XXXXXXX began to have cold symptoms- a runny nose, being irritable and an occasional low grade tempature (100 degrees rectorally. His parents took him to the Pediatrician a week ago and the doctor suggested that XXXXXXX was likely suffering from the same cold his father recently had. Dad feels better but still has an annoying cough. XXXXXXX does not seem to be improving and now he has developed a frequent, harsh cough, looks pale and even vomited his feeding after a coughing episode. He is not eating well because he is coughing so frequently.. HIs parentsl bring him to the local Emergency Department. The ED physician suspects Pertussis. Because XXXXXXX appears very ill, he is admitted to the hospital for treatment. Laboratory testing later confirms the diagnosis.

In the U.S., the overall mortality rate of botulism was about 7.5%, but the mortality rate among adults over 60 is 30%. The incidence is less than 1% after 2000. The mortality rate for wound botulism is about 10% (increasing because of drug abuse). The infant botulism mortality rate is about 1.3%.
The death rate of infant botulism is less than 1% in hospitalized patients. If untreated the death rate is up to 60%. The food borne botulism has not changed recently but the wound borne are increasing.
Rheumatic fever is an inflammatory disease that follows an URTI like pharyngitis with Streptococcal bacteria.
Cardiac tamponade is accumulation of fluid around the heart covering leading to shock.
Pulse oximeter is required to check oxygen at the digital level
Eye care question is not clear
Otoscope is required to assess ears, they may need to clear the cerumen before examining the ears
Risperidone is antischziphernic (antipsychotic) drug used to treat mania, schizophrenia, stuttering, Tourette syndrome, and OCD.
