needs more workup for XXXXXXX syndrome
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us. I have seen the uploaded reports.
Prolonged indirect bilirubin with normal ultrasound and LFT like in your child at 5 years suggests two possibilities :
1. Congenital genetic disorders like XXXXXXX syndrome or criggler najjar type 2 ( less likely as usually bilirubin is around 7-20)
2. Ineffective erythropoiesis. This needs peripheral smear examination .
XXXXXXX syndrome is more likely in your child because of normal LFT normal ultrasound and low levels of bilirubin.
Specialized tests that have occasionally been used to confirm a diagnosis of XXXXXXX syndrome include the following:
Fasting test
Nicotinic acid test
Phenobarbital test
Radiolabeled chromium test
Thin-layer chromatography
Drug clearance test
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay
Consult your gastroenterologist and ask him to do any of these tests to confirm.
Treatment :
No treatment is required.
Avoid any kind of alternative therapy without knowing their side effects, including homeopathic medicines.
Wishing your child good health
Regards
Dr Arun

Can not be cured
Detailed Answer:
It cannot be cured. But usually harmless. You just need to be careful with medications. Consult and inform doctors before giving any kind of medicines to your child.
Yes 25 percent chance for next child to get XXXXXXX syndrome.
You can diagnose it during pregnancy in first 3 months by amniotic fluid PCR.
