Question: My brother is suffering from kidney stones. 7mm and 9mm in left and right kidney respectively. One is stuck in urinal bladder veigns. Kindly suggest what kind of food he can take and precautions required during kidney stone.
Brief Answer:
kidney stone
Detailed Answer:
Hi
kidney stones are formed by high concentration of calcium and oxalate in the urine. Most importantly you should take at least 3 litre of liquid everyday. This dilutes the urine and prevents any precipitation of salts. You should not take diet rich in calcium like milk and other dairy products. Meat , nonveg should also be decreased. Any urine infections if present should be treated.
Your brother should under go investigation to document any causative factors. Blood test for kidney function including calcium phosphorus and uric acid should be done.
24 hrs urine for calcium phosphorus and uric acid should be done under guidance of your treating doctor to identify the cause of kidney stones.
Whatever stones are there should also be delt with. Stones less than 5 mm generally come out by themselves. Larger than 10 mm will need intervention. 5 -10 mm may need operation if causing obstruction.
