What Should Be Done Post AMS 800 Urinary Control System Failure?

Posted on Wed, 27 May 2015
Question: I have stage IV prostate cancer, was diagnosed in 2009. Had surgery to remove the prostate and radiation treatments. Also have been on hormone treatment for two years. My cancer has stablized and the psa readings have been negligible in the .0 range. I had scabbing in the urethra that caused blockage and difficult urination. My urologist performed surgery to clear this but it left me completely incontinent. This was bad enough to cause a life change for me. After a few months, more than a year ago, he installed the AMS 800 Urinary Control System. About 3 weeks after, he removed the catheter. I was and still am only about 50% better, still in pads and diapers, with accidents happening fequently. After he did an endescpe, he said it was still stress urinary incontinence, but to me it is more mixed.
Serveral months ago, he suggested to do the operation over, but I was hesitant. I just saw him last week and was ready to tell him I was ready, but now he seems hesitant. Reading between the lines, it almost seems he doesn't believe me that I am still having problems. I am using 3 to 4 pads a day, with a new pullover daily. I would prefer not to spend the rest of my life like this, especially now that my cancer is under control. I really need some advice.

You ave undergone surgery of putting MAS 800 urinary control system for incontinence of Urine following surgery and radiation for cancer of prostate.

Failure of device is known to occur in some patients resulting into Stress Incontinence of urine .

The only option to remain continent is to replace the existing device and put new one by doing redo surgery.

Since it is the balloon containing fluid is placed in abdominal wall your obesity should not have any issue for failure .
