Fecal immunochemical test is mainly advised to detect occult blood in the stool.
Positive result indicates abnormal bleeding in the lower digestive tract.
Occult blood may be seen in both benign and malignant conditions.It may be positive in conditions like polyps,colon cancer etc.
Positive result may requires further investigations like sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy.
