Question: My daughter is 16 and not sexually active. When should a woman start to see a gynecologist. I also am currently getting her immunized for HPV and she just had her first vaccine. She is now concerned because she heard about a girl is paralyzed
After the vaccine?? Also my son is 19 1/2. Should I get them both vaccinated for Meningitis as well?
Thank you, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
HPV vaccine is safe, Meningitis vaccine booster

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The XXXXXXX College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) recommends that the first visit with an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB/GYN) should be between the ages of 13 and 15. Paralysis with HPV vaccination has not been reported and it is generally very well tolerated. It could be associated injection neuropathy which is a possibility related to skill of the vaccinator. Meningitis vaccine is usually given at 11 to 12 years with a booster at age 16. Your daughter can get a booster now. Your son is a bit late for the booster. Consult your physician for catch up schedule in this regard.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
