Whom To Consult When Diagnosed With Neurocysticerosis?

Question: Hi, my mother is under going treatment for neurocysticerosis for last 11 days with a neurophysican she also has diabetes, since this disease started she feels pulling sensation in her left side of brain and body what can be the cause of it ,whom should we consults for proper treatment ?

Thanks for writing in.

It is important to have a look at her brain CT scan or mRI scan to know if the neurocysticercosis is causing the pulling sensations in the left side of the body.

Some times a pulling sensation can happen in people with diabetes due to vitamin B12 deficiency.

There fore a neurophysician is the right doctor but any vitamin B12 deficiency has to be evaluated and discussed.

Albendazole is to destroy the neurocyusticercosis.
wysolone is to decrease any brain swelling dure to neuricysticercosis.
Levipil is to control seizures.
Medicines are to be taken regularly.

Please follow up with your neurophyician regularly and she might require long duration treatment if she is having seizures due to neurocysticercosis.

I hope her blood sugar levels are normal and under control. If blood sugar is high then please consult a diabetologist for guidance on sugar control.

Yes due to steroids her sugar recently has shoot up to 267 fasting and 255 post lunch however, doctor has recommended medicine for the same ,for neuricysticercosis. she been recommended 21 days course, she is the middle of the course to be completed, she want to know is there any thing to worry regarding the pulling sensation in her left side pf brain.

Thanks for writing back with an update.

The sugar level rising post lunch is not a problem. Please correlate sugar levels with HbA1c test to be done every 3 months. It is important to continue the medicines as recommended. Wysolone dose is to be decreased slowly and please ask your doctor on this. Levipil needs to be continued for a longer time.

There is nothing to worry regarding the pulling sensation. You can talk to your doctor regarding taking vitamin daily.
