Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for use healthcare magic
There are a number of different antiemetics but they have different strengths. Some are more likely to work than others. In addition persons have different responses to medication, while it may be effective in one person, it would have no effect in another.
It is also important to remember that they can only dampen the urge to vomit and in most cases cannot eliminate it completely.
Antiemetics belong to different families of drugs and work along different pathways to help to reduce
vomiting. There are at least 7 to 8 different classes of drugs.
In some persons the over the counter anti emetics such as
dramamine, benadry (can also be used as an antiemetic),
cyclizine are not effective.
There are other antiemetics such as
zofran, anzemet,
zyprexa, sancuso that are stronger but require a prescription and are quite commonly used to help patients such chemo patients with their
nausea though zofran has been used effectively in
gastroenteritis.
Summary- the effectiveness varies from one person to the next, may need to combine different types of drugs or use herbal methods (ginger or peppermint) along with traditional medication for added benefit.
