Hi,

Thanks for posting your query. I am happy to address your questions, bruising and bumps or swelling of the scalp are common. A soft bump is normal, it's the fluid buildup from the fall. When a baby gets a bump, it sounds like a cephalohematoma...which is basically a large blood filled bump. Cold compresses work for the swelling of course. It would go away as the bones in your babies head which are coming together during this young age. Sometimes they can make weird bumps in between them while their fusing together. Its also possible that it could be a cyst but if youve already had it examined they should have picked that up. Infants have two areas on the head, known as soft spots or fontanels, where the bones haven't joined yet. The larger, diamond-shaped area on the crown persists until about 18 months, while a much smaller, triangular soft spot on the back of the head usually disappears between 2 and 6 months.
