Brief Answer:
To prevent urinary obstruction!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Drinking much water after TURP ensures that there is constant and enough volumes of urine being produced throughout the day. This would permit constant irrigation of the urinary pathway and the area of resection prevention any collection and deposition of particulate materials in the urinary tract/passages that can lead to obstruction.

Obstruction after TURP is a complication no surgeon would want to deal with.Because it can be conveniently and safely prevented by drinking enough water volumes, surgeons rather recommend this than dealing with an obstruction.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I have been experiencing acute fatigue in my 17th day after a TURP procedure. Is this normal. I have decided to use gator aid and ensure to keep my electrolytes and nutrition up. Is it just normal for this to happen . My scores for PSA before the surgery were 3.7 , 4.25 and then a drop to 3.25 but that might have been affected by taking finasteride and flomax.

Brief Answer:
Great idea...Continue with gatorade!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up precision.

I think it is a great idea to drink a balanced fluid. I will encourage you to continue with the gatorade. Maybe excess intake of pure water has caused some minor electrolyte disturbances and gatorade should be able to compensate and correct this.

I will not want to comment on these PSA levels right now. It is too early for any meaningful conclusions to be drawn from these numbers. What remains reassuring is the fact that the pre-surgery levels are normal and as such not suggestive of cancer. Get the PSA levels controlled in 3months for more comparison and comments.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.
