Will Bonnisan-30 Help Treat Constipation And Flatulence In An Infant?
His child specialist has recommended Bonnisan (5 drops) 2 times a day. I want to know if this will help him to pass stool? Shall I give him Bonnisan 30 mins before or after feed. Also is there any other recommendation that will help him to ease his constipation?
You may take following measures to relieve constipation if present
Detailed Answer:
Hi
If your baby is straining to do a poo, it doesn't necessarily mean that she's constipated. Look out for these signs for constipation:
-Crying and discomfort, irritability or pain before doing a poo.
-Dry, hard, pellet-like poo that she has trouble passing.
-Fewer than three bowel movements a week.
-Foul-smelling wind and poo.
-Loss of appetite.
-A hard belly
Formula feeds make babies prone to constipation because formula can be harder to digest than breastmilk, causing poo to be firm and bulky. A breastfed baby is unlikely to get constipated. Breastmilk produces poo that is almost always soft, even if a baby hasn’t done a poo for a few days. Also, due to aerophagia, the bottle feeding leads to gassy babies.
You may take following measures to relieve the symptoms:
-Gently move your baby’s legs in a bicycling motion to help move the hard poo along her intestine.
-If your baby is drinking formula, give her extra water in between feeds, but don’t dilute the formula. Make sure that you are using the recommended amount of milk powder when making up a bottle. Too much powder can dehydrate your baby, causing constipation.
- Try breast feeding at each feed followed by formula feeds if required. You may take tablet metaclopramide and leptaden to increase breast feeds. Also ensure good diet with plenty of fluids especially before feeds. This will increase you milk production.
-You should also burp your baby in middle of feeds and after feeds properly to relieve gassy abdomen.
You may continue bonnisan drops.
Hopefully this will help you. I will be glad to help you in any further questions.

Give it half an hour before feeds twice daily
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Infants show great variations in frequency of poops. It may vary from several times a day to once a week. As far as your baby is feeding and growing well, there is no need to worry.
So, relax. Once a day frequency is perfectly fine.
Bonnisan should be given half an hour before feeds twice daily. Give it only if other measures I suggested previously don't work.
Hopefully this will help you.
