Will Mating Between Third Cousins Once Removed Cause Genetic Disorders In The Offspring?
Question: Dear Doctor
Recently my best friend, found out through an ancestery site, that her and her husband are third cousins once removed. Dispite her husband and ourselves tring to reassure her, this will not cause any problems, she has refused all loving advances and is treating her husband like a brother.
So much so this has come to a head and is now causing extreme marrital problems, has she thinks it will cause defects and is just not natural.
Yours very concerned.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Third cousins is a distant relationship to cause any considerable genetic disorders in the offsprings.
To confirm about the possibility of any such happening, getting a genetic mapping done for both husband and wife will help in predicting the presence of any recessive disorders which might show up in their children.
They do need to XXXXXXX a genetic counselor for sorting out the doubts in their minds.
Hope this answers your query. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
