Will Right Anterior Cruciate Ligament Heal On Its Own?
If I had a partial tear of my right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and only had conservative treatment with physiotherapy:
-Will the ligament renew/heal on its own? By what means?
-What are the risk that it will become a total tear if I continue to be active in running, skate boarding?
-Is there any clinical data that shows progression of partial tear to total tear in ACL in non-surgical patient?
-What are the chances (percentage) that I may need an ACL reconstruction eventually?
Thanks

Generally healing is not complete.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query
I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Healing of partial ACL generally doesn't occur completely. But its functions are compensated by partial recovery and muscles. So muscle strengthening excercises are advised. If one engage in strenuous activities then it may lead to complete tear. There are nearly 50 percent chances of it get into complete tear. There are many clinical tests which are negative in partial tear and positive in complete tear. These tests laxity of ligaments. Such tests are drawers test and pivot shift test.
You can discuss with your doctor about it.
Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.
Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
