Will Side Effects Of Depakene Subside After Its Withdrwal?
Question: Im getting a dose of depakene 1250 mg every day and i with the doc consent tapering it gradually. Will side effects such as tremors subside when i finally withdraw the medication, im using the med for mood disorder only.
Brief Answer:
yes
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
Yes, there would be no side effects when you stop the medication in a tapering manner. Though Valproic acid (depakene) has wide side effect profile along with tremors, stopping slowly does nullify most of the side effects.
Hope, I answered your query.
Wish you good health.

What is the best way or schedule to taper off 1250 mg depakene per day. I am 96 kg . I have been taking depakene along with zyprexa for 2 months. How should i taper to avoid withdrawal symptoms. What would be the rate?
Brief Answer:
A 15 day schedule is fine
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
A 15 day schedule is good enough for Depakene. The first step down dosage of half of the present dosage for first week and quarter dosage the next week would help to get out of the withdrawal effects.
If you were taking 1250mg in two divided doses (morning and night) then stepdown doses should also be divided into two.
