Would A Tolerance To Adderall Occur In The Long Run?

default
Posted on Fri, 3 Feb 2017
Question: I was just prescribed Adderall and it is working wonders for me but I was told that I would eventually build up a tolerance. Does this always happen to everyone? How long does it usually take? Would they put me on another med that is just effective? What would the medication be? Thanks so much.

Brief Answer:
It is not that common

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Although tolerance with adderall is common but it does not mean that everybody going to develop it. Since you are taking in therapeutic dose range the possibility of tolerance is very low if any. However it is important to not to experiment and take only as per the prescription.

People who take excessive amounts (abuse) develop tolerance very rapidly ranging from months to years although most individuals with prescription dose range continue to take same dose for years while achieving same effects.

In case tolerance develops they try to use other medications which help in attention and concentration such as Vyvanse or atomoxetine.

I hope this answers you.

Thank you for your answer. It helped a lot. When you say therapeutic doses, I am taking 30 milligrams twice a day. So as long as I keep taking my current doses as prescribed, I may not become tolerant? In other words, it's a high probability that I won't?

Brief Answer:
You are right

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for reverting back to me with positive feedback.

You are absolutely right and I would say that much of your tolerance depends on your willingness to adhere to prescription dose which is less than 70 mg per day. I mean to say that you are within range but it is important to never make a heroic attempt to try extra dose.

I hope this clarifies.
Thanks and regards.
