Can I Use Ciprofloxacin To Treat Gonorrhea?

detailed below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
Yes, Ciprofloxacin can be used to treat Gonorrhea but it is not the first line of antibiotic used due to the increased bacterial resistance to this class of drugs.
The recommended antibiotics to treat Gonorrhea are the cephalosporins class of antibiotic (Ceftriaxone or Cefixime single dose).
The dosage of Cirpofloxacine for Gonorrhea treatment is 1 tab 250 mg as a single dose.
If the symptoms of infection persist ,it indicates that the antibiotic failed to treat the infection and the cause is the bacterial resistance .In this case you need to get an Cephalosporins antibiotic.
Hope it helps.
Let me know if you need further help.
Kind regards,

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
The researches have concluded that taking a single dose of 500 mg is not more effective than 250 mg.
The recommended dose for the treatment of Gonorrhea is 250 mg as a single dose.
Ciprofloxacin 250 mg twice a day for 3 days is the recommended dose for the treatment of an uncomplicated urinary infection not for gonorrhea.
Taking ciprofloxacin for 3 days won't make it more effective than taking it single dose.
The bacteria N.Gonococcus that causes gonorrhea ,can be sensible to the antibiotic and in this case the infection will be clear with 1 tab single dose, or the bacteria can be resistant to the drug and in this case the antibiotic will fail to treat the infection (independent form the dosage).

400 mg as a single oral dose.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
The first line therapy to treat gonorrhea and the most effective is :
-Ceftriaxone 250 mg as single dose intramuscular or
-Cefixime 400 mg as single oral dose
Azithromycin 1g as a single dose is added in the treatment to cover a possible Chlamydia infection because in most of the cases the infection co-exists with gonorrhea.
Since you need a prescription to take the antibiotics ,I would suggest to consult a physician and take the right treatment.
You are very welcome with every question you may have.I would be happy to answer.
Take care,
