Question: i need help, its been 4 months, on 6/9 i had to go to the er after exercising for palpations, that night, spasms in my legs when i lay down. over the next 4 months, i have lost peristalsis i have no bowel small intestine or large intestine, unless!! i sit in my chair and lean forward. then things start moving. otherwise... intestines are flacid all the time. i have had ct abd pelvis, colonoscopy, endoscope, small bowel follow through, all normal. i have had all lab work done. all normal, i am losing weight, because i get no nutrition from what i eat. it just sits there, until the next day and then when i sit in my chair, bowels wake up but it just comes out, no peristaltic function to break down the food and get nutrition. when i sit in my chair, i begin having small spasms in my legs and my bowel start moving but the contents have been there all night with no movement that they just come out. when i sit in my chair, i put my elbows on my desk, lifting my upper body slightly, my pelvis slides forward. on the weekends when i am not at work.. and dont sit in my chair i have no bowel motility and get extremely bloated. i have had to change my diet to ensure, and i have to dig stim to pass gas on the weekends, because other wise i cant. i have had every test for a blockage and there isnt one...this has to be a back injury of some kind. it was an acute onset after exercising, my bowels work when i position my hips, pelvis? in a certain way, but i cant just sit in my chair forever. i need help. my symptoms are spasms in legs, when laying down they are worse, but when i sit in my chair and lean forward my intestines wake up and my calves have small spasms, laying down, legs have larger spasms. could this be, a pelvic issue, sacral or lumbar issue? the only place in my back where i feel any pain, is my right mid thoracic spine, what feels like slight inflammation, when my mom popped my back.. my bowels woke up for a little bit. please offer advice.

Brief Answer:
Thyroid tests.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I havd gone through your query and here is my opinion.

You have specific symptoms because you mention that you have normal bowel motility only if you sit down in your chair.
All the tests (colonoscopy ,fibrogastroscopy and abdomen CT) are normal that means that your have not any physic/organic condition that cause your symptoms.

Hypothyroidism can slow the bowel motility and produce symptoms like "feeling bloated" and constipation.
For this reason ,if you were me patient i will ask to do the thyroid tests(TSH,fT3 and fT4) to understand if there is a possible relation between your thyroid gland and your symptoms

For the spasm in your legs i suggest to do the Calcium and Magnesium test because low levels of these electrolites can be the cause of your symptom.

At the other side,i want to underline that stress csn cause problems with bowel motility.
So if you are under stress, this can be a possible cause for your problem.
In this case the solution is manage the stress and eat healthy.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know the result ,if you do the thyroid, calcium and magnesium tests.
Wish you all the best.

Unfortunately ive had calcium magnesium thyroid all checked...they are normal. This was an acute onset from exercising. And i get peristlaisis back with a change in either pelvic, sacral, lumbar or thoracic position change..i have verified this through necessity..what could cause that.

Brief Answer:
Irritable bowel syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hi again
I appologise for the late reply

Many studies results show that body posture has a significant influence on intestinal gas propulsion.
Transit is faster in the upright position than when supine.(lying horizontally with the face and torso facing up)

You have normal calcium ,magnesium and thyroid hormones levels. This means that even a possible electrolite disturbance or hypothyroidism is excluded.

In these circumstances Stress can be a possible cause.
Irritable bowel syndrome is a diagnosis that may be considered in your circumstances. In this condition, stress can cause symptoms like yours.

For this reason i suggest to consult physically a local gastroenterologist for the right diagnosis and treatement.

Meantime my advices for you are:
-Eat more fiber.
-Exercise for 30 minutes a day
-Eat yogurt.
-Drink more water.

Hope this is helpful.
Best regards.

Brief Answer:
Meteorism

Detailed Answer:
Hi
In the attached image i see Meteorism.

This is accumulation of gas in the gastrointestinal tract which causes a sensation of bloating and abdominal distension. One of the most common causes of flatulence is improper eating.

To answer to your question:The circled area and all your intestine is delated because of accumulation of gas and this cause your symptoms.

Antacids ,especially those that contain simethicone and Probiotics (used to help kill bad bacteria and add good bacteria to the digestive tract.) are helpful in your circumstances.

The consult and the follow up with a gastrologist are necessary.

Hope this is helpful.
