Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How can you be actually diagnosed with parkinson . my mother in-law has been on several different kind of parkinson medication. The neurologist told her she thinks she has parkinson disease or just tremors. her head shakes her hands shake , She has lost weight. Is there a way to diagnose parkinson disease, not just think you have it . None of the medicine has helped her tremors
hello. Thank you for writing us here. Parkinson's is diagnosed mainly on the basis of symptoms. Other diagnostic criteria includes EEG and Ct brain. Symptoms include Tremors of hands and characteristic pin rolling movements of fingers like the person is rolling some bead or pin with fingers. Also the walking style (gait) is like they're bent forward and walk with little small shuffling steps. the expressions on face are gone and the speech is in a single tone. i suggest my patients to take a combination of Leodopa and Carbidopa.
If you think the symptoms mentioned above are similar to that of your Mother-in-law, its most likely to be parkinson's. Also the drugs may take some time to show its action or maybe the dose isn't sufficient to overcome the symptoms. So make sure She is taking her medicines on right time and in right amount.
god bless you, Best regards, Dr Gunjan
