11 Year Old With Pain In The Jaw, Swollen Lymph Nodes. Not Able To Eat. What Is Causing This?

My 11 y/o son has been complaining of bilateral jaw pain. he also has swollen lymph nodes on both sides. There is no redness, or other jaw swelling. he does have enlarged tonsils but thiss is normal for him. His tonsils are not abnormally red and he denies having a sore throat. He has no fever or other symptoms. He only has severe tenderness on both sides and says it hurts when he lays on either side. He also did not eat lunch today because he says it hurt to bad to open his mouth wide. i have looked in his mouth and cannot see any sores or source of infection.

Hello,
A thorough clinical as well as radiological evaluation by a dentist is required in your child's case.
Impacted teeth or abscess spread into sinus can cause bilateral jaw pain.
Gargle frequently using warm saline.
Avoid mouth opening too widely.
Chances of TMJ dislocation or fracture has to be ruled out.
Take complete course of medicines prescribed.
Jaws has to be immobilized for a while.
Take care.
