12 Year Old, Cough, Fever, Fatigue. Low Hemoglobin. Advice?
my 12 year old son had a bad cough for 2 weeks, with a slight raise in temperature, fatigue and irritablity. His doctor gave him a blood test which revealed an haemoglobin of 10. Sh e chatted wtih my se on who disclosed that he does not like to eat regular meals. They agreed that he would try to eat more, especially the soup made by his Grandma. What is your advice, please?
Child was suffering with RTI for two weeks.And during such infection the appetitie goes down.Which may be the cause of low Hb.
Measures to improve the Heamoglobin ;-
Deworming of the child is important step. Blood investigations to rule out any sort of infection in the like Urinary infection, chest infection etc. Iron and Multivitamin supplementation to be considered to improve appetitie and Hb level. Diety improvement Stress should be given to calorie rich diet like (Pulses, Animal protiens and Fat if you are non vegetarian, fresh fruits etc). Hope the query is answered. Thanks
Hi. Thanks for your query. After any illness there is decrease in appetite. I suggest you to give him small meals more frequently. Give plenty of green leafy vegetables,fruit especially pomogranate,salads. Give lemon as vit c helps in absorption of iron. Avoid all kind of junk food items.
