12 Year Old Having Dry, Sore Stinging Skin On Fingers. Stinging Subsided With Steroid Cream. Skin Peeling Still There. What To Do?

Hello my 12 year old daughter has a strange condition affecting the palms of her hands. They are very dry, sore, stinging and she has lost the skin off the tips of her fingers. She has not come into contact with any strange plants or chemicals. We have tried treating her with a topical steroid cream while the stinging has mostly subsided her hands are still very dry and she is now losing some of the skin lower down her palms.

Pediatrician, Infectious Diseases 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic forum.
Your child is most probably suffering from Exfoliative keratolysis or a dermatitis ( atopic or irritant).
Hence it has somewhat responded to steroids.
However it's best to get a confirmed diagnosis from a dermatologist and start treatment accordingly.
Mostly emollient lotions and steroid based ointments are the mainstay of treatment.Your doctor might also want to rule out a vitamin deficiency and start daily supplements for the same
Wishing you good health.
Regards
