13 Year Old With Blood In Urine. Treated With Antibiotic. Recurring Infection. Asked To Consult A Nephrologist. Reason?
Hi, my 13 year old daughter has had gross blood in her urine in August of this year and they treated her w an antibiotic . It went away in 48 hours. She complained w a weird feeling when she urinated like not burning but an odd sensation. She started w the same symptoms about 4 and half months later and I took her back to her ped. This time they said that they didnt think it was uti bc the culture didnt grow anything. She has no protein or high blood pressure but they did a ct scan for stones or structure shape and it came back neg. now we have to see a nephrologist . Should I be concerned?? Oh and she is a cheerleader that climbs in girls shoulders this year????

If your daughter has blood in the urine with no evidence of infection and a normal CT scan then she have an intrinsic disease of the kidneys.
Thus it's best to see a nephrologist who can order special tests of blood and urine to determine the cause. Depending on the results he may decide to do a renal biopsy.
Further treatment can be based on the results of the above tests.

hi there, hematuria or blood in urine could result from any cause affecting anywhere in the genitourinary system begining from the kidney to the urethra. As she does not have any organic reason which can be detected on routine screening it is best to consult the nephrologist who will try and determine the cause of hematuria and treat it accordingly.Unexplained hematuria is not to be taken lightly and should be resolved by specialist.Do not be worried but sure be concerned till you are able to find the cause of hematuria. Take care.

Infection/ stone/ kidney inflammation.
