1.5 Year Old Child Woke Up With Swollen Knee And Unable To Walk Or Lift The Leg. All Tests Normal. Is It Normal?
So my 16 month old daughter awoke with her knee swollen 3 times the size and unable to walk on it. Paediatrics and Orhopeadics looked at X Rays and took blood and said there is noting out of the ordeinary showing so think it is her body reacting to a virus or cold she has had and this is normal. This was yesterday. Today she has awoke and is unable to lift the leg at all when laying down. Is this normal? She has been given no treatment, just to go back in 5 days to follow up on progress. I'm worried as this is certainly not normal to anyone I know.
Hi and thank you so much for trusting us with your heath query.
I am so sorry to hear about this swollen knee you daughter has. Since all exams have shown no major threatening condition to the knee, it is most likely that it could represent a viral induced arthritis. She should have been prescribed pain medications, anti-inflammatory drugs, rest and cold packs. These would help relief pain, reduce the swelling and accelerate recovery. If she didn't receive any drugs, please talk to her doctor once again.
I hope you find this helpful. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and please do feel free to ask for clarifications or more information if need be. Dr. Ditah, MD.
