16 Year Old With Irregular Periods. What Is The Reason?
Hello. My daughter is 16 years old & she hasn't gotten her period in about almost 2 years. She first started at the age of 14 & her cycle usually lasted 6-7 days every 3 months. Then, she started to get it every 7 months. She is under no medication. Hasn't experienced any great amount of weight gain/loss. She is not sexually active and she doesn't do drugs. If you could please help me, thank you.
hi there, your daughter seems to be suffering from secondary amenhorrea which can be caused due to many reasons most common of which is pregnancy but as you have ruled out the possiblity of pregnacny the other causes are Brain (pituitary) tumors,Overactive thyroid gland,Polycystic ovarian syndrome Reduced function of the ovaries,Chemotherapy drugs for cancerDrugs used to treat schizophrenia or psychosis, anorexia nervosa or obesity, etc are a few common causes. You will need to get your daughter examined by an andrologist and also get anx-ray KUB or hesterosalpingogram along with USG done to rule out any organic defect of the uterus or ovary. Do get investigated as soon as possible as the hormonal imbalances can be cured by replacement therapy. Take care.
