Dear Doctor , I am sending you the details of my daughter s hearing loss , please help me to guide possible treatment. We are not in favour of operating the child for implant :We are getting no Hope.. and I Request you to help unfortunate parents like me We have Given her Phonak 1 UP naida Hearing Aid, But not sure how much speech she is hearing and will she develop normal speaking similar as per her hearing peers . Hence I have been restless and keeping in depressing thinking aboiut my daughters Fate I am Shirshendu Fron Kolkata My daughter details are as below NAME: SHRUTI NANDI. Current agre AGE:2 years 1 month Hearing Loss Detected age :2 years Her Mother have suffered from Rubella measles during the beginning of second trimester(i.e.4th month) of her pregnency and Shruti was also suffered from measles during 8 months of her age. 1.BERA Test Threshold Estimation: Right Ear: BERA test at gradually lower intensities of stimulations showed identifiable wave-V at 110 and 100 db nHL stimulations but not at 90 db nHL stimulations on the right side.this suggests a hearing threshold level of about 90-85 db, i.e. a severe hearing loss on the right. Left Ear:BERA test at gradually lower intensities of stimulations showed identifiable wave-V at 110 and 100 db nHL stimulations but not at 90 db nHL stimulations on the left side.this suggests a hearing threshold level of about 90-85 db, i.e. a severe hearing loss on the Left. 2.DPOAE Report: OTOACOUSTIC EMISSIONS TEST was done using DISTORTION PRODUCT OTOACOSUTIC EMISSION screening instrument. Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAE s)were ABSENT (a REFER result as shown in the printout) bilaterally on repeated trials. The absence OAE could be either due to middle ear pathology (e.g. Otitis media with effusion or ossicular fixation) or cochlear disorder involving the outer hair-cells of the cochlea.OAEs are present only if the middle ear and outer hair cell function are perfectly normal and the hearing threshold is normal (within 30 to 35 db).Absence of DPOAE just suggest the presence of deafness which could be anything from mild to severe. In this child , the BERA test for thrershold estimation suggests a severe hearing loss in both the ears which corroborates the absence of DPOAE in both ears.
