29 Yr Old Taking MDVP, Unable To Get Out Of It. Managed To Keep Job But Lost Friends And Driving Licence Revoked. How To Get Him To Rehab?
Hi my son is 29 and has been taking MDPV for the last couple of years, we have had him sectioned 6 times and he has just gone in again, so far he has managed to keep his job but has had his driving licence revoked and lost his girl friend and most other friends. He still refuses to ask for help even when he sobers up we are at our wits end trying to find a way to get him into rehab but unless they want to go in we cannot make himit seams death of one or other of us is the only way to end it.
I understand you are extremely distressed and frustrated. It is true that unless one really wants to quit, it is difficult to help them. I feel that a few things may help. When your son is sober, sit with him and talk to him about what he wants from life and his plans for the future. Ask him about things that make him unhappy. Ask him what his fears are about quitting and leading a life without drugs. Ask him his views about how you can help him. Keep your cool and do not get provoked into losing your composure. Try to get him to reveal both his inner fears and desires and then, assuage his fears (without minimizing or denying them) and motivate him to fulfill his life's desires. It may take some time and lots of effort, but it is certainly better than forcing someone to get into rehab, knowing fully well that it will not work.
Hope this helps you. Best wishes.
