3 Months Old Having Foul Smelling Green Sticky Stool, Both Breastfed And Bottlefed, Started Similac. Is It Normal ?

My baby is 3 months old and she is having quite fould smelling green, sticky stool after I started feeding her Similac advance Iron-fortified formula. She is both breastfed and bottlefed and she poops once in 2 days. I am concerned about the greenish colored poop - is it normal or does that indicate something is wrong? Please advice.

Hi
first of all i would like to inform you that before six months of age it is not wise to start formula feeds if possible up to the age of six months do exclusive breast feeding that will be healthier for your baby and you as well. on mothers milk pooing once in 2 days is not abnormal . greenish color of poop is due to the increase in transition time of stool and when it is mixed with bile.Color of stool has little significance in this case. giving few days a course of probiotics may be helpful in relieving in foul smelling poop.
Take care....

Pediatrician Dr. Rajiv K Khandelwal's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

The stool in a child can change colour. You should ensure that the bottle hygiene is well maintained. You should worry about the stool colour if the frequency or consistency changes.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter all the best.

Regards,
