3 Year Old, Inflammed Gum, Pain While Having Food, Ulcers In Tongue. Consulted Doctor

My 3 year old gums suddenly became imflammed & very dark red on the right side of his mouth about 3 days ago. When he eats or drinks he says it hurts and will only eat very soft food and drink wter (both of which have dramatically decreased). He doesn't have a fever but I've noticed a few ulcers on his tongue. We took him to the Dr yesterday & she said he has a tooth coming in. I don't think this really explains what is happenong, because it's never happened before when he was teething.

Hi,

the symptoms you describe go for stomatoglositis, which is a viral infection of the mouth and throat.

You can use local antiseptic solution for the mouth.

It is normal to refuse eating because it hurts. Don't use hot meals, use them in room temperature. Also don't use acidic meals(lemon juice etc) because they hurt him a lot.
If he will have extreme difficulty in eating than you have to consider iv replacement of liquids (I don't think he will have such a problem).
