Hello,
Uncontrolled diabetes and alcoholism both can cause miscarriages and various types of birth defects. The amount of alcohol required to cause these complications is not known.Few females matey drink excessively without causing any problem to baby while others may take less alcohol and still may get foetal defects. The bottom line is that alcohol must be stopped completely.
Similarly control of diabetes is very essential for healthy pregnancy.
Oral anti diabetics are avoided in pregnancy and must be put on injection insulin.
Her doctor is right as everything shall be fine and can be managed if the woman leaves alcohol immediately and get her sugars controlled at earliest.
Thanks

Hello,
Uncontrolled diabetes and alcoholism both can cause miscarriages and various types of birth defects. Her doctor is right in the sense that once she quits alcohol and her diabetes gets controlled, there should not be any problem to the woman and foetus.
The amount of alcohol required to cause foetal defects are not known because done females may drink excessively without causing any proble to foetus while others may drink less and still get foetal complications.
Diabetes in pregnancy is best controlled with injection insulin as oral anti diabetic medicines are avoided.
