Pediatrician, Critical Care 's  Response
I'm sorry to hear about your son's symptoms.

There are couple of reasons for having fever and blood in stools. Commonest is infection of the gut (Dysentry).

When a child with similar history presents to me - I need to rule out more serious causes like intussusception/volvulus etc. X-ray and blood test will give me some clue as to likely cause of these symptoms.

I can appreciate that this is stressful time, but further decisions will be based on x-ray, blood tests, may be Ultrasound of abdomen and stool examination.

Treatment will be based on what these results show. If it is infection of gut, he will need antibiotics.

Hope my answers are helpful to you
