6yr Old Boy Sudden Severe Leg Pain, What Could Be Wrong With Him ?

I have a 6 year old boy who has been complaining about leg pain for over a year off and on. He woke up the other night screaming like never before begging me to help. i took him to the emergency room and the doctor w/o running tests or even looking at his legs told me he had a bad dream. I took him the next day to his regular doctor who did blood work and told me it was probably growing pains. The tests came back showing high sed rate and low rh. Said she didn't think it was arthritis but afraid it was the start of something worse. Referred him to an orthopedic who before seeing my son referred us to a rheumotologist. What could be wrong with my son? Just wanting to know the possibilities for the extreme pain because he even will stop walking for a week at a time. i need help!

a 6 year old boywith leg pain since so long, suggests that he has a chronic problem. At this age Rheumatic fever is a fitting diagnosis but needs to pass a diagnostic criteria to be declared so. Rheumatologist can do you good

Without proper history we couldn't interpret anything. The sedimentation rate is a non specific one. Any inflammation anywhere in the body will increase it. Any how you have to do a complete workup as per rheumatologist instructions. Meanwhile collect all the data regarding when it started? Which is aggravating it? Any family history? What about the development of leg muscles? Any intestinal problem he had in the past? Whether he can squat on the floor? Whether he can get up on his own?

Hi,
It may be nothing. Sometimes children complaint muscle cramp pain. But you see a rheumatologist and do some tests. Just to exclude some diseases. Arterio-venous doppler of legs, blood tests for arthritis,RA factor,CRP,ESR. MRI LS spine. THANKS
