70 Years. Continuous Sweating. History Of Uterus Removal. Suggested Hormone Replacement Therapy Without Any Lab Tests. Opinion?
My sister has a problem with continual sweating. She is 70 and had her uterus removed at the age of 35 but still has her ovaries. Should she see an endocrinologist. She has seen her RA doctor, her gynecologist, and one endocrinologist who wanted to put her on hormone replacement therapy without even requesting any lab tests. She is hesitant about starting hrt at her age.
I am so sorry to hear about what your sister has been experiencing.
To me, it seems concerning why anyone would want to resort to hormone replacement therapy at first without any solid evidence o back this up in a 70years old lady. Doing some basic test to at least rule out common causes of excessive sweating like hyperthyroidism should be strongly considered. If nothing should show up on these preliminary findings, then trial of hormones may make sense but not before then.
My suggestion is that you get investigated at least with a basic metabolic panel and TSH screen for hyperthyroidism. Depending on the results, various options and the way forward would be established.
