85 Years. Dementia, Heart Palpatations. On Acid Reducer, Thyroid Medicines. History Of Taking Depression Medicines By Mistake. Help

I went to get my 85 year old aunt out of a very bad situation. She has dementia quite badly and is taking an acid reducer and thyroid meds. She also, mistakenly has been taking her grown son's depression meds. I just found them tonight and am concerned about what would happen if I took them from her. She says she is having heart palpatations- which I reported to her doctor, but did not know at the time she was taking her son's depression med's. Do you have any suggestions for me?

Hello,
welcome to Healthcare Magic.

You should take back depression medicines from her without worrying of consequences.

Some depression medicine are associated with acidity and increase heart rate (palpitation) at initiation of treatment.

You should also report this matter to her doctor as soon as possible to avoid any possible drug unteraction.

Wish you good health and all the best.

Regards,
Dr Ashish Kumar Mittal
