90 Yr Old With Congestive Heart Failure, Getting Nightmares And Hallucination, Unsteady With Atrophy. Aging Problem ?
my father is 90 yr old, with congestive heart failure , functioning at 30%, he has been getting nightmares and hallucinating and recently fell backwards as he is unsteady w atrophy lower body muscles and sleep & nap a total 15 hrs a day. Low blood pressure has sent him to be in the hospital due to a fall. Is this just old aging or is the low BP cause him to sleep alot and have atrophied muscle?
Congestive heart failure is associated with fatigue because the heart is unable to fulfil the needs of the body and the reduced oxygen to the tissues results in fatigue. So his age combined with the fatigue of heart failure would result in excessive sleepiness.
The atrophied muscles would also be related to age as well as his condition. As persons age they tend not to be as active,as a result the muscle undergo atrophy. If reduced oxygenation is added to this then the process is speed up.
I hope this helps
