93 Year Old With High Blood Pressure. Had Stroke. Need To Put A Feeding Tube? Recovery Chances?

My mother is 93 years old. She went to the hospital a week ago Sunday because her blood pressure was 263. Two days later in the hospital she had a stroke. She has been unconcious until this morning when she opened her eyes. She doesn't respond. The family is trying to decide weather to put a feeding tube in her or let her go.
All her vital signs are good. Do you think she will ever recover to the point of feeding herself and speaking to her family. We would like to put her in the nursing home and give her 2 weeks to see if she gets better.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Sorry to see the state / The decision is difficult to take - both for the family and the physician.
More details of her past and present illness will be necessary / time is also important - a couple of days to see the change. / If there was no significant illness before, if the pressure is controlled, if the stroke is not from bleed - she could come around.../ Only the doctor treating her at the moment can give better advice...

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Akhilesh Dubey's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
I have gone through details provided by you, your mother is Hypertensive and suffered a stroke that is the reason she is unconscious.
Cerebrovascular accident are like this and I am sure her CT scan must have been done and treatment must be going on.
You should understand doctors don't give up till the last breath, hence we should put in nasogastric tube to feed her and give necessary medication through it.
Her vitals are good and please continue to treat her and hope for best.
You should understand chances may be less but we should never give hope.
Please take very good care of her,
Good Luck.
Dr.Akhilesh Dubey M.D.
