Internal Bleeding. Had A Stroke. Been On Respirator. On Feeding Tube. Further?

My good friend was operated on because she had internal bleeding . They eventually did life saving surgery since after many tests, couldn t find where it was coming from. They removed ulcers that eroded her stomach, esophagus and apparently put a hole in her heart that they had to repair. They didn t realize until a day or so later that she also had suffered a stroke due to the surgery that from what I hear is considered a massive stroke. She s been on a respirator and out of it since she s had the surgery. The longer they wait, it is more dangerous where the stroke is concerned. Can she fully recover? They are not sure if they can reattach the esophagus. At present she has a feeding tube . At one point they said she had no stomach due to a gastric bypass she had many years back but when they closed her up days later, they were going to do something so she had a stomach. Not sure this all makes sense but just looking for your reponse where the stroke is concerned and if she will ever be able to actually eat again?

Hello,

The issue of internal bleed with stroke must have an origin and definite cause of occurrence to be defined with many modalities.

The prognosis and the ability of her to eat depends upon the functional status of the stomach or else there can be life long enteric feeding tube in many instances.

If the vital parameters as well as scanned copies of the last evaluation of MRI or CT brain, CT abdomen would help greatly to understand the issue and guide in that particular reference.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
