A Large Mass Was Found 12 Centimeters Proximal To The Splenic Flexure. In Which Part Of The Colon Is This Located?
Frank, a 72 -year - old man with suspected colon cancer, underwent a colonoscopy. A large mass was found 12 centimeters proximal to the splenic flexure. In which part of the colon is this located? Trace the route of the colonscope to the location of the mass by naming each part of the colon.
It's in the transverse colon. Tracing the colonoscope inside into your lower gut, we pass through the anal canal, rectum for about 18 cms after which the scope has to turn along the course of sigmoid colon for about 60cms. Further ahead, a complete colonoscope yields a view of the entire colon of 160cms sequentially going from descending colon, transverse colon, ascending colon, through till the caecum. The splenic flexure lies at the junction between transverse and descending colon. Anything proximal to the flexure and correspondingly in 12cms range indicates that the mass is in t. Colon.
