I am an 81 year old male, never smoked, but was in the military around smokers for over 23 years (1952-- 1975). Now I have a cough that doesn’t want to go away, usually in the evening to bedtime. Cough meds do not stop the cough. What do you suggest?
From the available description it appears that you are suffering from COPD. It can occur at later ages even with no history of smoking. The other possibility is that you may be having some tumor in your lung. You need to consult a physician who will conduct some blood tests and a chest X ray.
