A Used Insulin Injection Of An Old Diabetic Man Has The Ability To Transmit Any Disease?
I am a part-time caregiver for an elderly gentleman with diabetes and accidentally stuck myself with his syringe today right after giving him insulin . The main person in charge of his care, who is an LVN, and who is very knowledgable on his health status, says he is healthy and doesn t/hasn t had anything transmissible - do I need to worry? I squeezed it to make it bleed , then washed my hands.
You need to know whether the person has any disease that is transmissible by syringes. These include HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. If the elderly gentleman did not have these diseases you need not worry, if he has any of these I recommend you see your local doctor for post exposure prophylaxis for these diseases.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
