Abdominal Pain. Diagnosed With IBS, Taking Antidepressant, Percocet

Since I moved to my cottage in 2006, I have been experiencing abdominal pain. I have been diagnosed after many
tests with IBS. I have tried to stay away from fatty foods , don't eat after dinner, don't drink alchol, and limit coffee to
2 a day. I have been taking a mild dosage of an antidepressant for several months , but the pain during the night
keeps me awake for hours. I have been on Percaset and other heavy duty pain killers...and I want to get off this
kind of meds. I am 64 years old and tired all the time. Please help! thanks

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
IBS is kind of functional disease, it will definitely get alright if keep your anxiety level under control or low, I in fact I put my patient on antidepressant just single drug, in such cases Amitriptyline gives good result just one tab at bed time worth trying, nothing to worry every thing will be okay have nice day.

Hi!
Welcome to HCM!
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder that affects your large intestine causing cramping, abdominal pain, bloating gas, diarrhea and constipation.
Fortunately IBS doesn't cause permanent damage to your colon.symptoms can be improved by managing your diet, lifestyle and stress.
Triggers affect some people ranging from gas or pressure on your intestines to certain foods, medications or emotions. Many people find that their signs and symptoms worsen when they eat certain foods and symptoms are worse or more frequent during stressful events,
A diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome depends largely on a complete medical history and physical exam.
Taking fiber supplements, such as psyllium or methylcellulose with fluids may help control constipation.
medications that affect certain activities of the autonomic nervous system (anticholinergics) help to relieve painful bowel spasms.
Antidepressant medications which you are already taking help relieve depression as well as inhibit the activity of neurons that control the intestines. For abdominal pain without depression, your doctor may suggest a lower than usual dose of tricyclic antidepressants.
Be relaxed and happy as the stress aggravates the symptoms.
Take care!
