Abdominal Pain, Bloated, Swelling, Tender. Bladder Fullness. Help?

Last night I went to bed without urinating as I was tired and unable to get to the restroom. I woke up this morning with my stomach (believe bladder) very full and swollen before I went to the restroom. After I used the restroom, I have been experiencing some abdominal pain on the lower left side. It's tender to touch and a little crampy. Not sure if this is just caused by holding the urine for so long, or if there could be a problem. I have no other symptoms. Should I be concerned?

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

It appears as though your symptoms are due to holding your bladder for too long. This is not considered healthy and can result in infections or even kidney diseases. The phenomenon that takes place is due to the stagnant urine that accumulates plenty of bacteria which are the prime cause to all these conditions.

Although your symptoms cannot yet be related to a urinary tract infection (UTI) or a kidney infection, you will have to be on the lookout for these. Let me list them out for your reference:
-Burning sensation while urinating
-Frequent urination
-Increased urge to urinate, but less amount of urine passed
-Chills
-Fever
-Lower abdominal and/or flank region pain
-Itching around the genitals

Please note that not all symptoms need to be present to diagnose an individual with a UTI. I would thus advice you to avoid such a practice in the future, and in the meantime consume plenty of fluids and cranberry juice.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
