About A Week Ago, I Slipped On My Backyard Stoop

About a week ago, I slipped on my backyard stoop on a rainy day. My left leg hit the top metal edged step hard in the front, middle area on the shin bone. I once broke this leg when I was 15, so I had a healed fracture there. I went to the Urgent Care and got x-rays. They didn't see any break, but my leg has been hurting with a dull pain for a week. They wrapped my lower leg with sturdy Ace bandages. They suggest I buy a high leg cast walker to stabilize it. I did and it feels better while wearing it. Without it, my leg sizzles especially when standing or walking. Since I am nearly 65 yrs. old, now and am retired, I do not go to work. I can rest it on the sofa or on an ottoman. I have an appointment to see my Primary Dr. Do you think my leg should be placed in a cast and/or use crutches for a while ?
