Accidental Intake Of Bones In The Food. Will I Die?
Hi, Last night while I was out eating with some friends at an Indian restaurant I took a bite of some stew and found a bone. I bit into it thinking that maybe it was culturally encouraged or something, and ended up swallowing a bunch of tiny bits of bone for fear of spitting it out in front of everyone. Am I gonna die? - Frank
You wont die from that reason. If you were able to swallow it, most likely you will be able to excrete is with stool. Intestine has a great ability to avoid sharp edges so the wall of the intestine in case of sharp edge will react and the wall will retract.
The only possible danger is that this bone will stuck in the place where small intestine meats large intestine. You will notice abdominal pain, gas and stool obstruction and nausea. In case of such symptoms, you should visit your doctor immediately.
If you want to make sure where the bone is, wait about 3 days observing your stool and if no sign of this bone in the stool, abdominal X-ray (bone should be visible on it) will tell.
Hope this will help.
Regards.
