Acid Reflux, Pain In Stomach. Blood Work Showed High White Blood Cell Count. Related To Cancer?
I've been struggling with acid reflux for years, i just went to my doctor and did blood work came back with a high white blood cell count. I had two uncles die of esophagus cancer and an aunt die of stomach cancer i have had some pain that comes and goes in my stomach area. Is it possible that it could be cancer related or I have read that it might be an allergy to some foods. (my bowels have been loose lately)
White blood cells can be increased in a number of conditions and the most common cause is an infection anywhere in the body. If you have been having loose stools, then it is possible that you have a mild infection of the intestines and that explains your raised cell count. It has no relation with cancer of the esophagus or stomach. Having said that, the symptoms that you have described (persistent acid reflux, pain abdomen) warrant further testing in the form of upper GI endoscopy in which they will insert a camera in your esophagus and stomach and look for any abnormality. If it is normal then there is nothing to worry about.
