Advance Prostate Cancer, Has Surgery On Spine, Paralyzed. On Bowel Program, Passing White Mucus, No Bowels. Blockage ?
My husband has advance prostate cancer , has surgery on his spine from cancer attached a few months ago, making him paralzed. He is on a bowel program every morning with a supportory which helps him have a bowel movement . Today he did not one a bm but he has been passing some white musus and I am concerned he might have a blockage because he s stools have been rather hard. I gave him some kale for lunch and eating more fiber . He is in no pain.
I am so sorry to hear about what your husband is going through. I know it is not easy on you but remember this is when he needs the support of everyone to go through this.
From the information you have provided, i will suggest that you monitor him before rushing to any hospital. The symptoms are more suggestive of constipation than bowel obstruction. . Because he is paralysed and only stays in bed makes this very suggestive as it is commo in bed ridden people. Is he also taking opiods for pains? Thia may actauuly increasee the likelihood of having constipation.
For now, increase his fluids intake, fruits, fiber, water intake while at the sae time avoiding hard and very dry food stuffs. You may also consider to talk to his doctor and find out is he can prescribe some as needed laxatives for him.
I hope you find this useful and informative. If you have more questions, please ask us and we shall gladly provide answers. I wish your husband the best of possible outcomes. Dr. Ditah, MD.
